INTRODUCING :

Our Sustainable Brands

Part 1

House of Dagmar

PHILOSOPHY

At House of Dagmar, their definition of sustainability is built on three pillars: Design, Ethics and Longevity.

“For us this is not a trend this is a journey that we started 2005.”

“We have always strived to create timeless clothes made from long-lasting materials with the ambition to offer garments with a longer lifespan than the average clothing item. Throughout our production processes, we work with suppliers who take care of their employees and work with production methods that are not endangering or harming the eco-system. We aspire to create classical pieces with character, so that women wearing them always feel empowered and easily can combine different pieces from different collections together. We are strong believers in giving our customers the right care instructions with the purchase of a Dagmar garment in order for the garment to maintain its quality and durability. By designing classical yet expressive clothes in high-quality materials, we believe that the item can be wearable year after year.

Certified viscose, organic cotton, friendly fur, mulesing-free merino wool, recycled polyester, chrome-free leather, lyocell fibers and eco-regenerated cashmere are some of the materials featured in our collections. We strive to be at the forefront in both the search and use of new environmentally friendly fabrics. Therefore, we are involved in several projects that actively work towards developing new fabrics and production methods.”

GOALS

House of Dagmar wants to be a part of an industry where sustainable approaches and human rights are respected and achieved as a result of a business well run, not as the effect of a particular initiative.

They strive to become CO2 neutral by 2025.

The Paris Agreement states that an increase of 1,5° C will have a devastating impact on our planet. Therefore they want to take action and contribute to reaching the climate goals set by the United Nations.

Mayla

ETHOS

“We challenge and push the limits of sustainable fashion, so that we can contribute to a friendlier world. For us, this means putting the welfare of people, animals and the environment at the core of everything we do.”

100% VEGAN

As a sustainable brand Mayla supports a cruelty-free fashion industry, where animals aren’t exploited because of their skins and hair. According to recognised international sustainability indexes, vegan materials are also the most environmentally friendly choice, partly because the production of animal-derived clothing helps to finance and maintain the unsustainable animal agriculture. For this reason, Mayla decided to become a 100% vegan brand from year 2020.

LESS IS MORE

Mayla believes in producing small quantities to minimise overstock and to inspire customers to a more slow and circular consumption. They encourage a cruelty-free and sustainable closet that will last for years, and thoughtfully replacing and adding long-lasting pieces. Therefore, they aim to offer clothes that stand the test of time in terms of both quality and design.

EUROPEAN PRODUCTION

80% of Mayla’s production is made in Europe, mainly in Portugal and in Turkey. When it comes to choosing manufacturing partners, they consider a number of different factors: craftsmanship, working conditions for the employees, environmental impact and of course price, quality and quantities. By gradually moving a bigger part of our production to Europe, they will not only reduce their carbon footprint generated by the transport, but also be able to make regularly factory visits, making sure their Code of conduct is being adhered.

CHOICE OF MATERIAL

Material choices play a significant role in a product’s lifetime sustainability impact, so Mayla pushes for better fibers and finishing processes. Organic cotton, plant-based materials such as certified viscose and lyocell fibers, recycled polyester and rescued dead stock are some of the materials featured in their collections.

HIGG SUSTAINABILITY INDEX (MSI)

When Mayla chooses new materials, they use the HIGG Materials Sustainability Index (Higg MSI) to measure the environmental sustainability impacts of different materials. Developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, (SAC), it's the apparel industry’s most trusted tool to accurately measure the environmental sustainability impacts of materials. The index takes into account the energy, water and chemicals used to make materials, as well as generated waste.

80% PLANTBASED

80% of the materials Mayla uses are plant-based, mainly using ENKA®, ECOVERO™, REFIBRA™, TENCEL™ and organic cotton. Sustainable cellulose fibers such as ENKA® and ECOVERO™ have replaced silk which was one of Mayla’s core materials. Extracted from FSC-certified forests in Scandinavia, their supply chain is traceable, transparent and fully European.
